Rianjagi AA - Kenya
Rianjagi AA
Taste Story
This delicate washed Kenyan lot opens with blackberry sweetness, and a pleasant pop of tartness. A little more into the sip you’ll find a sweet cream like mouthfeel, and a light touch of brown sugar. The juiciness of a golden pear ties everything together before a bright citrus finish provides excitement for the next sip. This lot is full of fruity, juicy and bright flavors you’ll love.
Processing Journey
Hand-picked coffee cherries undergo meticulous sorting upon arrival at the washing station. The “cherry clerk” ensures unripe and damaged cherries are removed before the highest quality, befitting of the AA grade, cherries are pulped and fermented for 24-36 hours. The coffee is rinsed, and then set on drying beds for 7-12 days. The coffee is raked and rotated routinely several times each day.
Farmer Profile
This lot comes from the Rianjagi Farmers Cooperative, a collection of small estates in the Embu region of Kenya. Founded in 1976 the cooperative consists of five elected members, and eight permanent staff positions. They support farmers by offering pre-harvest financing, allowing the farmers to confidently invest in upcoming crops. As a coop they have the ability to buy crops in bulk to distribute to members at lower costs. The cooperative has empowered its members to produce amazing coffee, frequently recognized as the best in Embu.
