ELALA BONA QIQE
This lot from producer Daye Bensa is a delicious offering from the Sidama region of Ethiopia. This specific coffee, Elala, is named for the Sidama language word meaning “mountain”. Around 400 farmers in the Bona Qiqe region deliver their harvests to the Bona Qiqe washing station. The elevation of the washing station is 2,200m, but the farmers that deliver cherries have farms ranging in elevation from 1,920m at the low end, all the way to 2,330m at the high end. Once harvested, the beans are then washed, graded, and sorted into lots for purchase by roasters (such as Three Ships) and then lovingly roasted (here in Virginia Beach).
